With just a month remaining in the regular season, the Marlins hope to gain ground in the National League Wild Card standings. Miami is six games behind Colorado, which was off Thursday before a three-game set against Wild Card-leading Arizona, after dropping four in a row.

Peters, ranked the Marlins' No. 4 prospect per MLBPipeline.com, could be the internal rotation upgrade Miami has needed. In nine starts at Double-A Jacksonville, the left-hander went 6-2 with a 1.97 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP.

Nick Pivetta (5-9, 6.57 ERA) will look to put his shaky August in the rearview mirror. Over five starts for the Phillies, he posted a 1-3 record with an 11.57 ERA. One of those outings was a six-run, 1 1/3-inning start against the Marlins on Aug. 22.

Three things to know about this game

• Stanton and Hoskins were two of the hottest hitters in August, as the two combined for 29 home runs. Stanton tied the MLB record for homers in August (18), while Hoskins became the quickest to hit 11 career long balls.

• Pivetta --like many other pitchers -- has fallen victim to Stanton this year. The slugger is 2-for-5 with a long ball against the right-hander. Additionally, Stanton has seven homers in 11 games against the Phillies this season, most against any team he has faced.

• While opponents batted .402 against Pivetta over five August starts, his expected batting average allowed -- based on the quality of contact against him, plus his actual strikeouts -- was a more reasonable .290. That gap of 112 points was the second largest among all pitchers who logged at least 75 opponent at-bats for the month.
