Pedroia, who was placed on the disabled list on August 12 (retroactive to August 9) with left knee inflammation, has hit .303 (103-for-340) with a .378 on-base percentage, 17 doubles, six home runs, 54 RBI, and 41 walks against only 37 strikeouts in 86 games with the Red Sox this season. In 28 games since June 26, the 34-year-old has batted .336 (39-for-116) with a .908 OPS, hitting four home runs in his last 18 games. At the time he was placed on the disabled list he led major league second baseman in fielding percentage (.997), with his lone error of the season coming on July 19 and snapping an errorless streak of 114 games, marking a Red Sox career record at the position. The 2007 AL Rookie of the Year, 2008 AL Most Valuable Player, and two-time World Series champion (2007, 2013) has hit .301 (1,786-for-5,934) with a .367 on-base percentage in 1,484 career games, all with Boston.
Barnes, 27, was placed on the 10-day disabled list on August 22 with a low back strain. He pitched a scoreless inning in a rehab appearance with Double-A Portland on Tuesday, allowing one hit and one walk and striking out one hitter. In 59 major league games this season, Barnes is 6-3 with a 3.60 ERA (24 ER), ranking among American League relief pitchers in appearances (T-8th), innings (9th, 60.0), and holds (T-3rd, 21). He has held opponents to a .210 batting average with 66 strikeouts against 27 walks, with right-handed hitters posting a .564 OPS. Selected by Boston in the first round (19th overall) of the 2011 June Draft, he has appeared in 158 major league games (two starts) from 2014-17, going 13-10 with a 4.23 ERA (84 ER/178.2 IP).
Swihart, 25, has played 62 minor league games this season, including a nine-game rehabilitation assignment with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox from August 3-12. In 53 games for Pawtucket, the switch-hitting catcher has gone 37-for-195 (.190) with 22 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, and four home runs. Over 45 starts behind the plate between the two levels, Swihart has made just one error in 393 total chances (.997 fielding percentage), throwing out 15 of 47 attempted base stealers (31.9%). He has also made seven starts at first base. Selected in the first round of the 2011 June Draft (26th overall), Swihart has hit .271 (95-for-350) with 56 runs, 17 doubles, four triples, five home runs, and 36 RBI in 103 major league games from 2015-16.
Travis, 24, made his major league debut this season, posting a .279 batting average (12-for-43) with five doubles and a .380 on-base percentage in 18 games (12 starts) with Boston. He has hit .379 (11-for-29) with a 1.003 OPS versus major league left-handed pitchers, drawing five walks with only four strikeouts. In 82 games with Pawtucket this season, the Chicago native has hit .270 (82-for-304) with 14 doubles, six home runs, and 24 RBI. He has reached base in each of his last 14 games, and in his last three he went 6-for-13 with a double and a home run. Selected by Boston in the second round of the 2014 June Draft, the right-handed hitter was named the Red Sox' Minor League Offensive Player of the Year in 2015.
Maddox, 26, has not allowed a run or walked a batter in three appearances over three major league stints this season, the first of his career. The right-hander has surrendered four hits with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings, most recently tossing 1.2 scoreless frames in the first game of a doubleheader against the Yankees on July 16. He is also 2-3 with 8 saves and a 2.92 ERA (16 ER/49.1 IP) over 37 games between Portland and Pawtucket this season. In 6 professional seasons since being selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2012 June Draft, Maddox is 13-18 with 25 saves, a 4.27 ERA (124 ER/261.1 IP), and 227 strikeouts over 143 minor league appearances, including 13 starts.
Elias, 29, most recently started for Pawtucket on Wednesday, pitching a perfect first inning with one strikeout. Since being activated from the 60-day disabled list on August 17, he has posted a 5.27 ERA (8 ER/13.2 IP), 12 strikeouts, and four walks over three appearances (two starts) for the PawSox. In 2016, the left-hander made his Red Sox debut with three games (one start) over three stints at the major league level, also going 10-5 with a 3.60 ERA (50 ER/125.0 IP) and 113 strikeouts in 21 games (19 starts) for Pawtucket. Acquired via trade in December 2015 from the Seattle Mariners, the Cuban native has made 54 career major league appearances (50 starts) between Seattle (2014-15) and Boston (2016), going 15-21 with a 4.21 ERA (134 ER/286.2 IP) and 243 strikeouts.
