• The Royals have yet to announce who will start in place of injured left-hander Jonathan Sanchez on Tuesday against the Rangers.

• First baseman Eric Hosmer -- who entered Saturday's game hitting .056 (1-for-18) in his last five starts -- was lowered to sixth in the batting order. Hosmer had started 17 straight games as the cleanup hitter.

• Frank Wills, who was selected by the Royals in the first round of the 1980 Draft, died on Friday in his native New Orleans. He was 53. Wills went 4-4 with a 4.65 ERA in 16 games (nine starts) for the Royals from 1983-84 before pitching seven more seasons with the Mariners, Indians and Blue Jays.
