A's lefty Norberto returns from disabled list

OAKLAND -- After throwing a scoreless inning on Tuesday on a rehab assignment for Triple-A Sacramento, reliever Jordan Norberto was activated from the 15-day disabled list by the A's on Thursday.

The left-hander has been out since May 31 with a strained left shoulder. He had a 3.91 ERA in 21 games before being placed on the DL.

To make room for Norberto, Oakland optioned fellow left-handed reliever Pedro Figueroa back to Sacramento. Figueroa has only been with the team for four days and appeared in one game, throwing three scoreless innings of relief on Sunday when starter Bartolo Colon was forced to leave after straining his right oblique.

"Certainly not anything Figueroa did, this is just a numbers game," said A's manager Bob Melvin. "He really saved us the other day, giving us three innings. He is a big part of our future as well. It was strictly a numbers game with Norberto coming back."

Figueroa also had a stint with the A's earlier this season. He has a 1.50 ERA in nine games this season for Oakland.
