Albert Pujols has a long list of career accolades, but he had yet to add an American League Player of the Week Award since joining the Angels this past offseason. That changed on Monday, when Pujols notched his first AL weekly honors and his 12th career weekly award overall.
The Angels slugger hit .424 (14-for-33) last week and led all Major Leaguers with six home runs, 13 RBIs and 37 total bases.
Pujols also recorded back-to-back multihomer games last Tuesday and Wednesday against the division-rival Rangers. He was on a tear for that entire series against Texas, going 9-for-19 with four homers, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored in the four-game set.
Pujols recorded at least one hit in each of the club's seven contests to carry a seven-game hitting streak into Monday night's game against the Athletics.
Pujols' impressive performances at the plate last week raised his season average to .289, to go along with 24 home runs and 76 RBIs.
