Short hops

• Injured closer Huston Street (strained left calf) played catch Friday and remains on track for either a rehab assignment in the Minor Leagues or a simulated game with the big league club.

It's unclear when Street, who has 21 saves in 21 chances and boasts a 0.75 ERA this season, will pitch off a mound.

"There is no timetable, but we like the fact that he has turned the corner on this, where he is out on the field doing some things, and the time in the training room has been limited," manager Bud Black said. "That's always a great first step. The next step is to get him on the mound and throw."

• Anthony Bass (shoulder) threw two innings in a successful rehab assignment start Thursday for Triple-A Tucson and will start again in five days, Black said.

Bass and injured starter Andrew Cashner, who has been on the disabled list since July 4 with a strained right lat muscle, are both are expected to pitch for the big league club in September, the manager said.

• Everth Cabrera stole two bases Wednesday and is 24-for-24 in stolen-base attempts this season, the longest streak of successful attempts to start a season in club history.
