• A.J. Griffin tossed five innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. He allowed a solo home run in five innings.

"They said everything was great and once he actually settled in, he dominated the last three-plus innings," manager Bob Melvin said.

• Chris Borgard, the strength and conditioning coach for Class A Stockton, was named 2012 California League Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year. Borgard has worked within the A's Minor League system for three seasons with Stockton and Vancouver.

• Melvin said infielder Brandon Inge likely won't return to the A's until at least this weekend. Inge is recovering from a strained right shoulder.
