Worth noting

• Matt Holliday underwent extensive therapy and treatment on Thursday to address the lower back stiffness that force the outfielder out of Tuesday's game. Holliday did not play on Wednesday, but he returned to the Cardinals' lineup on Friday.

• Double-A Springfield fell to Tulsa on Thursday to even the best-of-five Texas League playoff series to 1-1. The Springfield Cardinals mustered only four hits in the 3-0 loss. Seth Maness allowed three runs on six hits in six innings and shouldered the loss.

The series moves to Springfield on Friday night, where the Cardinals will host the next two -- or, if necessary, three -- games.

• Major League Baseball announced on Thursday that Cardinals Minor Leaguer Alan Ahmady will be suspended for the first 50 games of the 2013 season after testing positive for a drug of abuse. This is Ahmady's second violation of the Minor League Drug and Prevention Program. Ahmady batted .292 in 92 games this season. He could not serve any of the suspension this year because his season has already ended.

• Despite their sub-.500 season record, the Brewers enter this series on a hot streak. Milwaukee has won 13 of its last 17 games. Seven of those wins have come on the road.
