Darvish sidelined with stiffness in neck

ARL View Full Game Coverage INGTON -- The Rangers have scratched pitcher Yu Darvish from Tuesday's start against the Athletics because of stiffness in his neck. Scott Feldman is starting instead.

Darvish woke up on Tuesday with stiffness in the neck. He underwent treatment, tried to get loose and was not able to do so. The Rangers decided to scratch him as a precautionary measure and start Feldman instead.

"He was disappointed he wasn't going to start, and we're disappointed he's not going to start," manager Ron Washington said.

The Rangers are uncertain when Darvish will start again. But it's unlikely that he'll get to start more than once before the end of the regular season. Darvish is 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA in 29 starts and 184 2/3 innings.

"I really wanted to throw tonight," Darvish said. "It's unfortunate that I can't."

Feldman is 6-11 with a 5.19 ERA in 20 starts and seven relief appearances.

"It's just a stiff neck. My neck is stiff right now, too," Washington said. "I can hit my fungoes and throw BP, but this guy has to go out there and pitch. That's the difference. We'll just go day by day and see how he gets through it."
