MLB News

Worth noting

• Giants closer Brian Wilson, recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery, told an Associated Press reporter that he will begin throwing on flat ground Oct. 19. "I will be available Opening Day. I will be 100 percent at Spring Training," Wilson vowed.

• Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner are the first pair of Giants pitchers to win as many as 16 games apiece since John Burkett and Bill Swift won 22 and 21, respectively, in 1993. Only three other pitching duos in the Majors have been that prolific this year: Detroit's Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander (16 wins apiece), Texas' Matt Harrison (17) and Yu Darvish (16) and St. Louis' Lance Lynn (17) and Kyle Lohse (16).

• The Giants have reached the 90-victory plateau for the 18th time since the franchise moved to San Francisco in 1958. They've achieved this distinction in seven of the last 13 seasons.
