World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, sending the Navegantes past the Cardenales in Game 1 of the best-of-7 Championship Series. Free agent Juan Rivera chipped in two hits, including his fourth postseason homer, in support of Carlos Zambrano, who allowed a run on four hits over five innings for Magallanes. Giants prospect Johnny Monell hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fourth inning as the Criollos doubled up the Indios to get within one win of their second title in three years. Carlos Rivera doubled twice and drove in the other two runs for Caguas, which took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Championship Series. Former Minor Leaguer Michael Nix hurled six strong innings for his second playoff victory, while White Sox newcomer Angel Sanchez went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Mayaguez. Box score

Juan Miranda hit a tie-breaking homer in the seventh inning as the Yaquis opened a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 Championship Series. Fellow Major League veteran Alfredo Amezaga provided a spark out of the leadoff spot for Obregon, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored.
