Winter League roundup: Inciarte paces Zulia in win

Venezuelan Winter League

Zulia 6, Caribes 1
Center fielder Ender Inciarte, a former Rule 5 Draft pick now in the D-backs organization, went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs while Mark Minicozzi drove in three runs, including two on a double in Zulia's four-run fourth inning. Six Zulia pitchers combined to strike out seven and scattered only four hits. Caribes, meanwhile, got three shutout innings in relief from Orioles lefty T.J. McFarland, who allowed two hits. Caribes starter Richard Salazar allowed all six runs on six hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings. Box score

Lara 8, La Guaira 2
Lara took advantage of four errors and seven walks by La Guaira, scoring three runs in both the second and third innings and coasting to a big win. Jairo Perez and Seattle's Jesus Montero led the way with solo homers, while No. 1 Dodgers prospect Joc Pederson went 1-for-3 with a double and two walks. Second baseman Joe Thurston went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Rangers prospect Luis Sardinas, Carlos Sanchez and Alex Cabrera each chipped in two hits for La Guaira. Box score

Aragua 5, Magallanes 4
Catcher Guillermo Rodriguez, a 35-year-old veteran who saw brief Major League stints with the Giants and Orioles, knocked a two-out fly-ball single to center to score pinch-runner Carlos Colmenares and give Aragua the walk-off win in the 10th inning. Rodriguez finished with two RBIs, while right fielder Alex Romero went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Aragua. Carlos Maldonado, a catcher in the Nationals organization, went 2-for-4 with a game-tying RBI single in the eighth for Magallanes. Box score

Margarita 1, Caracas 0
Perhaps fittingly in a game mostly devoid of offense, Nationals prospect Corey Brown drove in Margarita's lone run on a double-play grounder in the bottom of the fourth. Brown's groundout scored Antoan Richardson, who had walked, stolen second base and reached third on a bunt single by Cesar Hernandez. Each team recorded four hits and struck out eight times. Mexican Pacific League

Mazatlan 10, Mexicali 3
All but one starter had a hit for Mazatlan in the blowout. Henry Mateo and Jose Orozco had three hits, while four other players had two. Sergio Valenzuela had a rough outing, allowing five runs on eight hits in just 2 1/3 innings. Box score

Guasave 5, Culiacan 4
In a back-and-forth game, it was the ninth inning that proved to be the difference. Guasave scored two runs in the top of the ninth on a two-run single by Zelous Wheeler. A double by Alex Liddi in the bottom of the frame could get only one run home. Box score

Los Mochis 9, Navojoa 1
Los Mochis had an offensive explosion with Brian Burgamy having a two-hit, three-RBI night and Juan Carlos Gamboa hitting a grand slam in the eighth inning. Jonathan Castellanos got the win, allowing four hits in six innings of work. Jose Oyervidez took the loss. Box score

Hermosillo 7, Obregon 1
Obregon couldn't come back after a four-run third inning by Hermosillo that included a three-run home run by Carlos Gastelum. He had four of the team's 12 hits on the night. Hector Galvan got the win, while David Reyes took the loss. Box score

Dominican Winter League

Licey 2, Gigantes 1
D'Angelo Jimenez drew a walk-off walk against Jhonny Nunez to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the ninth. Yunesky Maya, a 32-year-old right-hander in the Nationals organization, allowed one unearned run on one hit in 5 2/3 innings for Licey. The club's first run came in the fourth, when Texas' Jurickson Profar (1-for-3 with a walk) reached on an error and scored on Yamaico Navarro's double to left field. Gigantes managed only three hits, one of them by Phillies No. 2 prospect Maikel Franco. Box score
