Cain hits first spring homer in split-squad action

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- drilled a two-run homer, his first homer of the spring, and the Royals beat the Giants, 2-0, on Saturday at Surprise Stadium.
Right-hander , projected to be the Royals' No. 3 or No. 4 starter, made his spring debut, tossing two scoreless innings.
Giants starter , with an outside shot at the No. 5 spot in the rotation, gave up three hits and walked a hitter but made it through two scoreless innings.
With two outs in the first, Hammel gave up two hits and hit a batter but got out of the trouble with a routine flyout. He threw 31 pitches, 17 for strikes.
Left-hander Mike Minor, hoping to lock up a bullpen spot for Kansas City, threw two more scoreless innings, retiring all six hitters he faced. He has thrown four scoreless innings this spring.
Giants coach Jose Alguacil was struck the face with a check-swing foul in the eighth inning and was carted off the field. No report was given on his condition.
Giants Up Next:, a familiar foe for the Royals, will start Sunday's 12:05 p.m. PT rematch at Scottsdale Stadium. This will be the third Cactus League start for Bumgarner, San Francisco's hero against Kansas City in the 2014 World Series.
Royals Up Next: Left-hander Danny Duffy makes his final start before he departs for the World Baseball Classic as the Royals travel to Scottsdale to face the Giants in a 2:05 p.m. CT matchup. Left-hander and right-hander also are expected to pitch.
