ST. LOUIS -- Just one night after Yadier Molina's dramatic grand slam, William Fowler made quite the memorable impression of his own at Busch Stadium. Fowler broke a seventh-inning tie with a slam, helping the Cardinals complete a sweep over the I-70 rival Royals with an 8-6 win. But the home run and the victory it brought to St. Louis will be remembered for even more.
It's the first time in Cardinals history that the team has hit a go-ahead grand slam in consecutive games. The homers by Molina and Fowler also mark the first time St. Louis has hit a grand slam in back-to-back games since Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, 2011, when Jake Westbrook and Jose Pujols did so against the Brewers.

The Cardinals have now hit three grand slams in their last five games.

They were quiet Thursday until Fowler delivered an RBI double to spark a three-run sixth and hit the homer the following inning.
"We had trouble getting offense going, and Dex, with a double early on too that -- you're tired of hearing me say it -- but getting those big hits," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "We get in a situation with the bases loaded, we need something to happen and that was something. Just a real nice job of staying the course."

Fowler's homer to right-center field traveled a projected 404 feet, according to Statcast™, for his 15th home run of the season. The slam was the third of his career, and his first in two years.
The seventh started with back-to-back singles by Matt Carpenter and Tommy Pham. After Pham stole his 16th base of the season, Paul DeJong walked to load the bases with no outs to set up Fowler's home run off Neftali Feliz.
"Just something to hit, something to drive," Fowler said on what he was looking for when he stepped to the plate. "Got it first pitch."
The slam gave the center fielder a career-high five RBIs in the game. He is in the midst of a four-game hitting streak and has scored a run in his last five games. Fowler has also walked in eight straight games, one shy of his career high.
"Just trying to take good at-bats and go at it like that," Fowler said. "Any time you get a career high, you're doing something right."

As seen in his recent hot streak, Fowler has adjusted to his new position in the lineup. Beyond the slam and five RBIs Thursday, the former tablesetter is thriving as St. Louis' cleanup hitter.
"I think he looks pretty good there. He's been good," Matheny said. "This is a guy that came in here thinking he was going to be hitting in the leadoff spot all season long, [but] I think he's one of the ones who's bought into not putting so much ownership into any particular spot. ... What a shot in the arm he's been since he came back."
