JUPITER, Fla. -- Carson Kelly and Paul DeJong, two players expected to open the season in Triple-A, combined to drive in five runs to lift the Cardinals to a 9-4 win over the Braves at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 5-2 in Grapefruit League play. The Braves have two wins in six spring games.
The Braves spoiled Adam Wainwright's spring debut by tagging the veteran righty for three first-inning runs on homers by Dansby Swanson and Adam Walker. Wainwright followed with a scoreless second to wrap up his outing.
"[I'm] just trying to build off of a great offseason and spring so far," Wainwright said afterward. "I don't love giving up homers, but I'm actually really, really fired up about my stuff right now. I have to work on my cutter. Both of the homers were on sloppy cutters, but the other stuff was really good."

The Cardinals climbed back into the game with a pair of runs off Bartolo Colon. First baseman Matt Adams broke an 0-for-12 skid with a home run.
"He just hit a good pitch off me," Colon said of Adams' homer, a four-seam fastball on the outside corner. "He's always been a good hitter off me. He just got a hold of that one."
"Bartolo is tough," Adams said. "His ball moves a lot. If I can time that ball up as it's moving all sorts of different directions, then I know that my timing is on."
Braves lefty John Danks squandered the rest of the lead in the fourth, during which the Cardinals turned four hits into three runs. Kelly, who was inserted into the lineup when the Cardinals scratched Matt Carpenter (back stiffness), capped the inning with a two-out, two-run double.
DeJong piled on with his first homer of the spring, a three-run drive in the sixth inning off Braves reliever Blaine Boyer, to increase the Cards' lead to 8-3.
Braves Up Next: Right-hander Julio Teheran is expected to make his second start of Spring Training when the Braves host the Red Sox at 1:05 p.m. ET Friday at Champion Stadium in a game streaming on gameday audio. Teheran looks to build on his initial outing, a two-inning scoreless stint against Houston.
