Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Scott Kingery (Phillies' No. 11), Reading at Akron (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Kingery hit a leadoff homer on Thursday to extend his Minor League-leading total to 17. He finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, also recording his 12th double and 13th steal in the contest. The 23-year-old second baseman is putting up monstrous numbers across-the-board in the Eastern League this season, as he enters Friday sporting a .323/.403/.682 batting line with a circuit-best 51 runs scored and 135 total bases.
Pitcher to watch: Jack Flaherty (Cardinals' No. 5), Memphis vs. Omaha (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Flaherty, No. 100 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, is set to make his Triple-A debut after a dominant showing at Double-A Springfield to begin his season. At the time of his promotion, the 21-year-old right-hander was leading the Texas League in wins (7) and WHIP (0.92) and owned the second-best ERA (1.42) through 10 starts. He held opposing hitters to a .205 average in that span while compiling 62 strikeouts and 11 walks in 63 1/3 frames.
Duel of the day: Sean Newcomb (Braves' No. 5) vs. Jameson Taillon, Gwinnett at Indianapolis (7:15 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Control issues have kept Newcomb from consistently pitching deep into games for Gwinnett, but the No. 71 overall prospect has still been plenty effective, posting a 2.96 ERA with 67 strikeouts and a .214 opponents' average in 10 starts. With improved efficiency and fewer walks -- he's issued 30 free passes in 51 2/3 innings (5.2 BB/9) -- Newcomb could get his first taste of the Majors later in the season.
Taillon, 25, is making his second rehab start after undergoing surgery for testicular cancer on May 8. After striking out six over three scoreless innings for Double-A Altoona in his return, Taillon was promoted to Indianapolis. The righty was impressive at the big league level in 2017, going 2-1 with a 3.36 ERA in six starts.
