Lynn throwing, targeting return in Miami series

ST. LOUIS -- Lance Lynn, who was placed on the disabled list with right forearm tightness on June 8, resumed throwing on Tuesday with a light game of catch on the Busch Stadium outfield grass.

Noting afterward that "everything felt strong," Lynn will remain in St. Louis while the team travels to Minnesota to open a two-game series on Wednesday. Lynn's throwing program has him scheduled to play catch again on Wednesday and then get back on the mound later in the week to throw a bullpen session. He plans to join the team in Philadelphia on Friday to do so.

He is eligible to come off the disabled list on June 23, which coincides with the start of a series in Miami. Manager Mike Matheny said he is "hopeful" Lynn will start one of those three games against the Marlins. If so, Lynn will have only been skipped twice in the rotation.

"Instead of [the tightness] being ahead of us, hopefully this will give us a chance for us to stay ahead or right along with it," Lynn said of the layoff. "Seven days off of throwing isn't really going to make a difference. But for me, I'm just trying to make sure everything feels right going forward. That's probably going to make the biggest difference."

• The Cardinals announced on Tuesday that they have signed seven more Draft picks, including left-hander Jacob Evans (sixth round), catcher Jesse Jenner (seventh), right-hander Carson Cross (14th), infielder Daniel Martin (24th), right-hander Greg Tomchick (27th), outfielder Thomas Spitz (32nd) and infielder R.J. Dennard (39th). That brings the organization's total number of signings to 23.

The club also signed a pair of non-drafted free agents: right-hander Harley Holt out of Hawaii Pacific University and third baseman Michael Polcyn from Ripon (Wis.) College.

• Matheny would not commit to whether closer Trevor Rosenthal would be available on Tuesday. Rosenthal has been dealing with right arm soreness for the last two days and did not pitch in a save situation on Monday. He was in the trainers' room getting treatment while the other relievers played catch about an hour before the game started.

• Seven players from the Cardinals' Double-A affiliate have been selected to play in the Texas League All-Star Game on June 30 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Those participants include outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker, catcher Michael Ohlman, outfielder Charlie Tilson, right-hander Kyle Barraclough, right-hander Joey Donofrio, right-hander Arturo Reyes and right-hander Chris Thomas.

• Lefty Nick Greenwood threw 6 1/3 shutout innings in Triple-A Memphis' 5-0 win over Nashville on Monday. Greenwood allowed just two hits and set a season high in strikeouts (seven), innings pitched and pitches thrown (93).
