Sore back won't be an issue for Adams

SEATTLE -- Out of the lineup for a second straight day, Cardinals' first baseman Matt Adams showed that he was healthy enough during his afternoon work to be available off the bench for the second game of the series.
Adams, a game-time scratch on Friday due to lower back tightness, limited his fielding work on Saturday but did participate in batting practice. Before taking the field, he said he could already feel improvement since Friday.
"It was just a sore back," Adams said of the issue. "It just locked up. It wasn't loosening up."
WORTH NOTING:
• One week after making his first career start in center field, Kolten Wong debuted in left field on Saturday. Wong, as he trotted out to shag flyballs from the position on Saturday afternoon, said that he had never previously played left field at any point in his baseball career.
• Brayan Pena tallied singles in two of his first four at-bats in a start for Double-A Springfield (Mo.) on Saturday. Pena, whose rehab assignment will come to a close on Sunday, entered the day 7-for-42 in 12 games.
