Cardinals place outfielder Jon Jay on 15-day D.L.

1st baseman/outfielder Xavier Scruggs recalled from Memphis (AAA)

ST. LOUIS, May 14, 2015 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to today's series finale in Cleveland that they have placed outfielder Jon Jay (left wrist tendinitis) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 10, and recalled first baseman/outfielder Xavier Scruggs from Memphis (AAA).

The team also announced that they have transferred left-handed pitcher Jaime Garcia's 30-day injury rehabilitation assignment from Memphis to Springfield (AA). Garcia is scheduled to start for the Double-A Cardinals tomorrow.

Scruggs, 27, was batting .229 (22-for-96) with a team-leading six home runs, 18 RBI and a .510 slugging pct. in 30 games for Memphis. The right-handed hitting Scruggs also had seven doubles and a .385 on-base pct.

Drafted by the Cardinals in 2008 (19th round) out of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Scruggs has totaled 140 homers in the minors, hitting 20 or more in each of his past five seasons (2010-14). He appeared in nine games for the Cardinals last season, collecting three hits and a pair of RBI.

Scruggs has been assigned uniform no. 59.
