Cardinals recall LHP Tyler Lyons from Memphis (AAA); infielder Greg Garcia optioned to triple-A Club

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons from Memphis (AAA) and that they'd optioned infielder Greg Garcia to the triple-A club following yesterday's game.

Lyons, 27, who is being recalled for the fourth time this season, is 8-5 with a 3.21 ERA in 15 games started for the Memphis Redbirds, striking out 90 batters in 89.2 innings pitched with just 12 walks allowed.

In six starts for the Cardinals this season, Lyons is 2-1 with a 5.02 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 28.2 innings of work. Lyons won back-to-back starts June 13 against Kansas City and June 19 at Philadelphia.

His most recent start for the Cardinals came in Game 1 of their July 7 day-night double-header against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, when he allowed three runs on five hits in 5.2 IP.

Lyons, who wears uniform no. 70, is 4-9 with a 4.72 ERA in 29 career games (18 starts) since debuting in 2013.   He's 0-1 with a 1.13 ERA in 11 career relief appearances, striking out 26 in 24.0 innings pitched.

Garcia was batting .350 (7-for-20) in 16 games with five of his seven hits coming as a pinch-hitter.
