Pitcher Tim Cooney optioned to Memphis (AAA)

ST. LOUIS, Mo., July 3, 2015 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight's game with the San Diego Padres that they have optioned last night's starter, left-handed pitcher Tim Cooney to Memphis (AAA), and recalled outfielder Tommy Pham from the triple-A club.

Pham, 27, was batting .338 (27-for-80) with 5 HR's and 21 RBI in 24 games for the Redbirds. After beginning the year on the disabled list (left quadriceps), Pham joined Memphis on June 6 and has produced a .625 slugging pct. and a .402 on-base pct. while primarily playing centerfield.

The right-handed hitting Pham was a 16th round (496th player overall) draft selection by the Cardinals in 2006 out of Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pham, who has homered in each of his past two games at Memphis, was batting .320 (8-for-25) with runners in scoring position.

The 6-1, 175-pound Pham appeared in six games for the Cardinals last September, going hitless in his two at-bats. He will wear uniform no. 60.
