Reyes among 8 Cardinals selected for AFL

Kiekhefer, Rowland, Weaver, Ohlman, Diaz, Wisdom and Tilson also to play for Surprise

ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals assigned eight players, including top pitching prospect Alex Reyes, to the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday.

Reyes, a 21-year-old righty, is No. 18 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects List. Reyes has a 4-7 record with a 2.53 ERA bouncing between Rookie-level, Class A Advanced and Double-A ball, but he was limited to 96 innings due to shoulder soreness midway through the season.

"We felt he was deserving of it, and allowing him to get 30 extra innings seems to make sense for him," Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said.

The other Cardinals who will be playing for the Surprise Saguaros include: left-hander Dean Kiekhefer, right-handers Robby Rowland and Luke Weaver (Cards' No. 8 prospect), catcher Mike Ohlman (No. 28), infielders Aledmys Diaz and Patrick Wisdom (No. 12) and outfielder Charlie Tilson (No. 7).

Diaz finished the season strong after being called up to Triple-A Memphis from Double-A Springfield. The 25-year old had a .320 average (8-for-25), with a homer and three RBIs.

Weaver, 22, was 8-5 with a 1.74 ERA in 18 starts at Class A Advanced Palm Beach. He had 82 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings.
