Lynn begins recovery from forearm strain

PHILADELPHIA -- Eight days after being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a forearm strain, Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn said he threw an estimated 50 pitches on Saturday in an attempt to rehab the injury.

Lynn said he felt good after the session and the next step is to see how he feels on Sunday.

"We're going to see where it goes from here and make sure it feels good tomorrow after throwing with the recovery process," he said.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny also emphasized the importance of seeing how his starter feels on Sunday before deciding when he will come off the DL, and whether he can make what would be his next turn in the rotation when the Cardinals are in Miami next week.

"We've got an eye on some [return] spots, but we'll try not to throw it out there until we see how he responds," Matheny said.

When Matheny says "we," he is not including Lynn in that collective. Lynn said he is a part of the conversation as to when he will return from injury, but he does expect to come off the DL when he is eligible to do so.

"I'm sure they have a plan," Lynn said. "But I don't get told. I probably have to wait and see if everything's good, recovery-wise. And [I'll be back] whenever I'm eligible to come off, which is some time in Miami."

Lynn went on to say that though he still isn't happy that he went on the DL, he understands why it makes sense that he missed two starts instead of just the one as he feels he now has more of a grasp on the injury. And though the DL stint has helped him learn that, so too has his knowledge of baseball.

"I think it's one of those things where as the season goes on you're going to have your aches and pains and you kind of have to know where it is and know when it's starting to wear out you have to make sure that it isn't bad," Lynn said.
