Yadier Molina has been the heart and soul of the Cardinals for over a decade. Signing a three-year extension with the club on Sunday, Molina will now remain with the Cards through 2020, meaning he'll finish his career playing a total of 17 seasons with the team.
Only a select number of players have spent their entire career, spanning at least 15 years, with only one club. Molina will become just one of six catchers to ever do it, joining Johnny Bench, Jorge Posada, Bill Dickey, Jason Varitek and Bill Freehan.
Such a feat has been accomplished by 52 position players. Brooks Robinson spent all 23 years of his career with the Orioles, as did Carl Yastrzemski with the Red Sox. While that's the most ever, Cardinals legend Stan Musial isn't far behind, playing all 22 years in St. Louis.

Molina will join Musial and Hall of Famer pitcher Bob Gibson, who played his entire 17-year career with the Cardinals, as the only players in team history to accomplish the feat.
What makes the total by Molina even greater is that it comes during the era of free agency. He joins a short list of players who had the option to sign elsewhere, but chose to stay. Along with Molina, some of the most famous names who chose to do that include: Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripken Jr. and Craig Biggio.

The most recent players include the likes of Derek Jeter, who spent 20 seasons with the Yankees, Chipper Jones, who spent 19 seasons with the Braves, and Todd Helton, who played 17 seasons for the Rockies.
Among active players, Molina's 14 seasons with the Cardinals is tied with the Twins' Joe Mauer and the Mets' David Wright.
