Crawford to join Dodgers in Atlanta
Outfielder has been out since April 28 due to an oblique injury
WASHINGTON -- Outfielder Carl Crawford, out since April 28 with a right oblique strain, will join the Dodgers in Atlanta on Monday, manager Don Mattingly said Sunday.
Sunday's game against the Nationals was the 74th Crawford has missed due to the injury. He is on the 60-day disabled list and rehabbing with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Mattingly said Crawford will only play left field for the Dodgers, and there are instances when he would play Crawford and current left fielder Andre Ethier at the same time. Ethier also has the versatility to play center and right field, meaning Mattingly can give right fielder Yasiel Puig the occasional game off.
"Definitely, I would use Carl to be able to give Yasiel some days off," Mattingly said.
In 15 games before the injury, Crawford was batting .245 with five extra-base hits.
Mattingly did not confirm whether Crawford would be activated on Monday or later in the series or what the corresponding move is going to be.
