Beltran needs big boost in final days of voting

June 28th, 2016

NEW YORK -- Only two Yankees, Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann, ranked high enough in votes to be listed as potential starters in the final 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot update, and both are long shots.
Beltran, ranked 10th among outfielders with 964,473 votes, is nearly a million votes behind Boston's Mookie Betts, who is ranked third. McCann, ranked fourth among catchers, is in an even more exaggerated game of catchup, trailing Royals catcher Salvador Perez -- the top vote-getter overall -- by more than three million votes.

Given how far behind Beltran and McCann are, it's likely that the Yankees will not send a position player to San Diego for the 2016 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard, despite Beltran's status as one of the AL's most productive power bats this season.
