Gomez does it all for Brewers in return from DL

CHICAGO -- Carlos Gomez was off and running in Saturday's 6-1 win upon his return to the Brewers' lineup.

Gomez popped out on the first pitch he saw following a 17-day stay on the disabled list for a right hamstring strain, but made his presence felt in the second inning when he drove in one run with a bloop single and helped manufacture another run with his first two stolen bases of the season.

After taking second and third against Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta, Gomez scored when Jean Segura snuck a single past Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro.

"We know [Arrieta] kicks his leg really high, so every time I see a guy that's like 1.4 or 1.5 [seconds to home plate], it's a really good opportunity to go," Gomez said. "I feel fine. I feel 100 percent to play my game, so you see it today. I'm going."

He kept going until the sixth inning, when Logan Schafer took over in center field. The six-inning limit was pre-planned, said manager Ron Roenicke, who opted to keep private the Brewers' plan for Gomez on Sunday and beyond.

"Obviously, he's feeling great," Roenicke said. "His workouts have really gone well but when you see him take off like that, it really surprises you."

"They want to take me step by step, but everything is good," said Gomez.

His reinstatement from the DL marked the Brewers' first step back to full health.

Second baseman Scooter Gennett (hand laceration) on Saturday played the second of four scheduled games with Class A Wisconsin on a Minor League rehabilitation assignment.

Catcher Jonathan Lucroy is in the early stages of a 4-6 week absence for a broken left toe.
