SAN DIEGO -- Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez reached double-digits in the first round of Monday's T-Mobile Home Run Derby at Petco Park, but he was ultimately ousted by runner-up Todd Frazier.
Gonzalez smacked 12 home runs in Round 1, which lasted four minutes, plus an additional 30 seconds as a bonus for launching at least two of them 440 feet. White Sox slugger Frazier, last year's Derby champion, followed and reached 13 with 12 seconds remaining. Frazier then defeated the Reds' Adam Duvall in Round 2 before falling to the Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton in the final.

:: Complete Home Run Derby coverage ::The experience was unmarred by results, though, particularly for Gonzalez's Derby pitcher, Fred Ocasio, the manager of Colorado's Class A Advanced Modesto affiliate.
Ocasio began his professional coaching career with Colorado in 1998 and in recent years has been summoned to join the big league staff in Spring Training as a batting-practice thrower.
"I throw to a lot of the guys," Ocasio said, "and I always joked it would be nice if some day somebody would take me to a Home Run Derby. Here I am.
"It's exciting. When Carlos called me and asked me if I would come throw for him, I said, 'Of course.' I've been wanting to do this for the longest time."

It was the second Home Run Derby for Gonzalez, who has 19 home runs this season, but his first Derby since 2012, when he didn't make it out of the first round after mustering just four. He was also set to participate in '13 but had to pull out days before after spraining his right middle finger.
At one point on Monday night, Gonzalez homered on five straight swings, but the final six swings that followed produced balls that stayed in the yard. His longest homer traveled 450 feet.
"He's such a strong kid," Ocasio said. "I don't know if it's the wrists or the forearms, but when he hits the ball, the ball sounds different than when the other guys hit the ball. He's got such good bat speed and just that natural strength."

Gonzalez had several family members in attendance, including his son and twin daughters.
"It's awesome having them here," Gonzalez said.
That the invite extended to Ocasio thrilled him beyond belief.
"It's so nice to be here at an All-Star Game," Ocasio said. "I always watch it on TV, and I really appreciate Carlos inviting me and asking me to be part of it. It means a lot. He likes the way I throw to him, that I throw strikes to him. To have a big league player of the caliber that Carlos is ask me to be part of this is pretty nice."

Gonzalez will be joined by Rockies teammate Nolan Arenado for the All-Star Game presented by MasterCard tonight, with coverage beginning at at 5:30 p.m. MT on FOX.
