WASHINGTON -- Rockies right fielder Carlos González ended his slump in milestone style.
With Colorado already up two runs on Charlie Blackmon's 11th-inning home run, Gonzalez added another two-run shot -- his 200th career homer -- in the Rockies' 9-4 victory over the Nationals on Saturday afternoon.
Before the home run off Yusmeiro Petit, who gave up five runs in the 11th, Gonzalez was 0-for-5 on Saturday. But the slump was longer. The homer ended a 1-for-21 skid on a road trip that saw the Rockies lose all four games before Saturday's win.
Gonzalez hit four home runs for the Athletics as a rookie in 2008 before joining Colorado in a deal for outfielder Matt Holliday. The rest have come while Gonzalez has represented the Rockies as a three-time National League All-Star.
"It's a great accomplishment, but I don't play for personal numbers. I just try to do something every day to help the team," said Gonzalez, who has 24 homers this year. "That's been my mentality since Day 1. Now we're talking about a 200-home run career.
"I don't think it'll change. I'm going to show up every day to try to do the same thing and see what happens at the end of my career."
