SURPRISE, Ariz. -- With very little separation at this point in the competition for spots in the D-backs' infield, manager Chip Hale is content to sit back and watch.
"It's great because they are all playing really well so we're not even close to making a decision," Hale said.
The battles include who will start at short and second, as well as third base, though Jake Lamb seems to be the clear frontrunner at the hot corner.

Nick Ahmed, Chris Owings and Jean Segura are in the mix at shortstp with Owings, Segura, Phil Gosselin and Brandon Drury in the running at second base.
Drury and Gosselin can also play third base.
"They are all playing baseball well right now and they all have really good strengths, and not too many weaknesses," Hale said. "So we're very wealthy in that talent."
Corbin sharp
Left-hander Patrick Corbin has now thrown five shutout innings this spring after adding three scoreless in a 12-3 win over the Royals on Friday.

"I felt like I wasn't as amped up as the last time," Corbin said. "Mechanically, everything felt smooth, changeup felt good, the location of my fastball was really good today. Tried to throw strikes and work fast. Fastball inside today was a lot better, too."
Offensive outburst
The D-backs pounded out 12 runs on 18 hits against the Royals and got homers from Ahmed, Chris Herrmann and Evan Marzilli.
"They looked good today," Corbin said of the offense. "They put together some good at-bats. It was great to see three homers early in the game."
