"He's got a little more tenderness than he has in the past," Showalter said. "He's got some concern about it. We'll make sure we know what we're dealing with … I think it's got his attention now."
Tillman throws simulated game
Chris Tillman, who missed the start of last season with soreness in his right shoulder, threw a two-inning simulated game in Sarasota, Fla. Tillman, who is expected to be one of the Orioles' top four starters, threw 42 pitches.
Lee optioned to Triple-A
The O's optioned left-hander Chris Lee, who suffered a right oblique strain in Tuesday's game with the Rays, to Triple-A Norfolk.
Showalter said that he thought Lee would miss four weeks,and doubted that he'd be ready to pitch for the opening of the Minor League season. It's likely that Lee will remain in Florida for rehabilitation.
Right-hander Gabriel Ynoa will start for the Orioles when they host the Red Sox on Sunday at Ed Smith Stadium (1:05 p.m. ET, MLB.TV). It will be Ynoa's second Grapefruit League start, both against the Red Sox. Last Sunday, he gave up a run on two hits in two innings against Boston in Fort Myers, Fla., walking one and striking out four.
