Two recent additions to the Padres' family had strong outings Thursday night.
Right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack, who was acquired in the trade that sent closer Fernando Rodney to the Miami Marlins, made his debut with low Class A Fort Wayne and gave up one run on six hits with six strikeouts in four innings. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 18 before allowing the run.
Center fielder Buddy Reed, the 48th overall pick by the Padres in the 2016 Draft from the University of Florida, was 4-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, three RBIs and a run scored for Short-Season Class A Tri-City. He is hitting .294 on the season.
Meanwhile, right-hander Cal Quantrill, the Padres' top pick in June as the eighth overall player selected, gave up four runs on as many hits with a strikeout in an inning in his second professional start for the Rookie-level AZL Padres.
Elsewhere, El Paso outfielder Hunter Renfroe hit his Pacific Coast League-leading 21st home run for the Chihuahuas on Thursday night.
It was announced yesterday that El Paso infielder Casey McElroy will not be able to play in the Triple-A All-Star Game next Wednesday due to the hamstring injury that has placed him on the Chihuahuas' disabled list.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (5-9, 27-57): CF Franchy Cordero (.353) had a triple and his first Double-A homer in five at-bats with three runs scored. LF Luis Tejada (.304) was 2-for-4 with a home run. 3B Gabriel Quintana (.250) was 2-for-4. 2B Nelson Ward (.230) had a two-run homer in four at-bats with a walk. RHP Dinelson Lamet (2-3, 4.11 ERA) allowed a run on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in six innings. LHP Kyle McGrath (1.33) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning. RHP Yimmi Brasoban (2.40) gave up two runs on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. RHP Adam Cimber (1.89) retired the only hitter he faced. RHP Jason Jester (2.61) allowed an unearned run on a hit with two strikeouts in an inning for his 10th save.
