Smith and Pena pace Triple-A El Paso

Right-handed starter Chris Smith allowed one run over seven innings and shortstop Ramiro Pena drove in all four El Paso runs Monday afternoon as the Chihuahuas scored a 4-1 win at Las Vegas.

Smith (1-1 with a 3.81 ERA) allowed five hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Pena (.316) was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer.

Third baseman Brett Wallace (.291) was 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Center fielder Jake Goebbert (.276) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a steal. Pinch-hitter/left fielder Alex Dickseron (.318) had a double in two at-bats with a run scored.

Wil Myers played first base for the Chihuahuas in his third rehab game, and he went 2-for-5 with two steals and two runs scored. He is 5-for-15 on rehab with a homer.

Right-handed reliever Marcos Mateo (2.35 ERA) came off the seven-day disabled list Monday and walked two with four strikeouts in 1 1/3 hitless innings to pick up his seventh save. As Mateo came off the disabled list, first baseman Cody Decker went on the seven-day disabled list.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (26-30): Missions 8, FRISCO 4 -- SS Trea Turner (.324) was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple for three RBIs and two runs scored. RF Hunter Renfroe (.231) was 2-for-5 with a double, a steal, two RBIs and a run scored. C Jason Hagerty (.209) was 2-for-5 with a RBI. 2B Rey Bruguera (.224) had two doubles in five at-bats with two runs scored. LF Yeison Asencio (.289) was 2-for-5 with a run scored. CF Travis Jankowski (.335) was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks for a run scored. Starting RHP Eliot Morris (2-4, 4.45 ERA) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

HIGH CLASS A LAKE ELSINORE (26-32): HIGH DESERT 7, Storm 4 -- SS Jose Rondon continued his torrid hitting. He was 2-for-5 with two hits and a RBI. He is 21-for-43 over his last 11 games to raise his batting average to .303. 3B Donavan Tate (.228) was 3-for-4 with a triple, a RBI and a run scored. 1B Marcus Davis (.265) was 3-for-4 with a run scored. DH Mike Miller (.234) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Starting RHP Matt Shepherd (6.37 ERA) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings. LHP Kyle Bartsch (4.82 ERA) walked one with four strikeouts in two hitless innings. RHP Eric Yardley (1-2, 3.55 ERA), the saves leader in the Padres system, suffered his third blown save and took the loss, allowing four runs (including a two-run homer) on four hits in an inning.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (6-3): REDS 10, Padres 5 -- Starting RHP Emmanuel Ramirez (4.91 ERA) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. LHP Eisler Cordova (0-1, 12.79 ERA) allowed six runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings to suffer the loss. LF Dayon Olmo (.306) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. 1B Wilfri De La Cruz (.238) was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
