ORLANDO, Fla. -- Chris Woodward, the third-base coach of the National League-champion Dodgers, has surfaced as a candidate for the Yankees' managerial opening.
No interview has been scheduled with Woodward, 41, but a source told MLB.com that Woodward is being considered for the position. The club has not confirmed.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman has said that the managerial search is suspended until Thursday, when interviews will resume at Yankee Stadium.
Rob Thomson and Eric Wedge have already gone through the five-hour interview process, while Aaron Boone, Jerry Hairston Jr. and Hensley Meulens are among those also expected to be interviewed.
Cashman said on Tuesday that he has not reached out to every candidate who will be interviewed, signaling that the search figures to be in its early stages. In 2007, Cashman interviewed just three candidates to take over for Joe Torre: Joe Girardi, Don Mattingly and Tony Pena. The Yankees ultimately went with Girardi, whose run with the club ended after it was eliminated in the American League Championship Series.
Woodward batted .239 over an 11-year career as an infielder with the Blue Jays, Mets, Mariners, Braves and Red Sox. He attended Spring Training with the Yankees in 2008 but did not make the big league roster. Woodward was the manager for New Zealand's World Baseball Classic team in 2016.
