Citizens Bank & Phillies launch 2018 Phans Feeding Families program

Fans urged to fight hunger at Phans Feeding Families Day on Tuesday, June 12 during Phillies-Rockies game; Citizens Bank makes first donation to the cause with $40,000 contribution -- providing 80,000 meals

May 3rd, 2018

Citizens Bank and the Philadelphia Phillies, along with Phillies ambassador Mickey Morandini and Phillies sponsors, today announced the 2018 Phans Feeding Families program. As part of the program, Citizens Bank presented a check for $40,000 to Philabundance, the region's largest hunger relief organization. Now in its eighth year, the initiative will raise money and collect food to feed those who are at risk of hunger.
"For eight years, Citizens Bank and the Phillies have stepped up to the plate to help feed our neighbors in need through Phans Feeding Families," said Philabundance Executive Director Glenn Bergman. "This partnership is a grand slam because it has provided approximately one million meals for children and families across Greater Philadelphia and raises awareness of food insecurity -- an issue that has become a crisis in our region, especially over the summer when children lose their school meals and are more likely to go to bed hungry."

To lead off the program, Citizens Bank has contributed $40,000 in support of Philabundance, the region's largest hunger relief organization and Phans Feeding Families beneficiary. The Citizens Bank grant will provide the first 80,000 meals to the 2018 Phans Feeding Families campaign.
Since the initiative began in 2011, Phans Feeding Families has generated $500,000 for the cause. To date, with fan support, approximately 1 million meals have been provided to families in need.
"We are honored to work with wonderful partners like the Phillies and Philabundance to raise money and awareness about food insecurity in the Philadelphia region," said Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, President of Citizens Bank, Mid Atlantic Region. "Hunger is an urgent issue in our communities - it affects our neighbors, friends, colleagues, and family members. But together, through programs like Phans Feeding Families, we can make a difference for those in need."
In addition to Citizens Bank, several Phillies sponsors and advertisers support hunger relief efforts and will participate in the 2018 campaign. They include: Aramark, GIANT Food Stores, Goya Foods, Hatfield, SEPTA and Toyota.
"While we are proud of the approximately one million meals provided through our Phans Feeding Families initiative, there are still far too many families in our community who remain at risk for hunger," said David Buck, Phillies Executive Vice President. "On June 12, on Phans Feeding Families Day at Citizens Bank Park, we look forward to joining our fans and corporate partners in providing hunger relief to those in need."
