Indians announce Spring Training radio, TV schedules
CLEVELAND -- Spring Training is almost here for the Indians. Plenty of players are already on site at the team's training complex and the equipment truck has arrived in Arizona. Games are only a few weeks away.
On Wednesday, Cleveland announced which spring games will be broadcast in the weeks leading up to the team's Opening Day tilt with the A's on March 31. The Indians will have 16 games aired on local radio and eight broadcast on the team's flagship TV home of SportsTime Ohio.
"This is just the beginning," Indians outfielder David Murphy said last month. "There is a lot of potential here and I'm really excited about that, and the chance to win the [American League] Central."
The quest for the AL Central crown begins in Goodyear, Ariz., where Cleveland's pitchers and catchers report on Tuesday. The full squad is slated to report on Feb. 15, with the first team-wide workout scheduled for Feb. 17.
The Indians will open their spring slate with three straight games against the Reds from Feb. 26-28 at Goodyear Ballpark, which the teams share. The Cactus League opener is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET on Feb. 26 and will be broadcast on WTAM 1100, STO, the Indians Radio Network and Indians.com. The Feb. 27 game will be aired on STO.
STO is also scheduled to show games from March 9-13, as well as March 17.
WTAM 1100 will broadcast 10 games this spring, while some games (Feb. 28, March 22 and March 28) will also be aired on WMMS 100.7 FM. Three other spring games (March 7, March 14 and March 23) will be broadcast locally on 99X.
All local broadcasts will also be available across the Indians Radio Network. Cleveland's complete spring schedule and a list of radio affiliates can be found on Indians.com.
Prior to Opening Day, the Indians will head to San Diego for a pair of exhibition games against the Padres on March 28-29. The Padres announced that those games -- scheduled for 9:10 p.m. ET and 4:10 p.m. ET, respectively -- will be played at Fowler Park and Cunningham Field on the campus of University of San Diego.
"We're thrilled to be able to provide a unique showcase of Major League Baseball in an intimate college setting here in San Diego," Padres president and CEO Mike Dee said in a release. "We appreciate the support of [USD athletic director] Ky Snyder and the entire USD Athletics Department, as well as the Cleveland Indians."
