Hurdle loses challenge on Cutch play at third

PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates challenged an out call at third base on Andrew McCutchen in the aftermath of his two-run triple in the fifth inning on Thursday vs. the Cubs.

McCutchen drilled a drive into PNC Park's left-center notch to drive in two runners and give the Bucs a 4-0 lead. However, as McCutchen came out of his popup slide, he came off the bag and Chicago third baseman Luis Valbuena applied the tag on his right leg.

Third-base umpire Scott Barry called out McCutchen, and Pirates manager Clint Hurdle challenged the call -- which was ruled to stand as called.

McCutchen did get credit for a triple, his 15th extra-base hit in 11 games during June.
