Chris Colabello of the Minnesota Twins and Josh Hamilton of the Los Angeles Angels named American League Co-Players of the Week

Minnesota Twins designated hitter and first baseman Chris Colabello and Los Angeles Angels left fielder Josh Hamilton have been named the American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending April 6th. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

Colabello batted .391 (9-for-23) with four doubles, one home run, 11 RBI and four runs scored over six games to claim his first career weekly honor and the first for the Twins since Josh Willingham on April 16, 2012. Among A.L. leaders, the right-handed-hitting Colabello was first in RBI, tied for second in doubles, tied for third in total bases (16) and tied for fifth in hits and slugging percentage (.696). On Thursday, the 30-year-old collected a pair of doubles with a career-high six RBI as the Twins topped the Chicago White Sox, 10-9, at U.S. Cellular Field. Trailing 1-0 in the third inning with the bases loaded, the Framingham, Massachusetts native lined a bases-clearing double to give the Twins a 3-1 lead. The Assumption College product added two more runs to Minnesota's lead with a run-scoring double in the fifth. On Sunday, Chris was once again an integral part of the Minnesota offense, going 2-for-5 with a double, four RBI and a run scored as the Twins defeated the Cleveland Indians, 10-7, at Progressive Field. After an RBI-single in the fourth, Colabello notched his second basesclearing double of the week two innings later as he ripped a 1-1 pitch to left-center field to give the Twins a 9-6 lead in their eventual victory.

Hamilton batted .500 (11-for-22) with two doubles, two homers, five RBI and five runs scored to win his third career weekly honor. Josh led all Major League hitters in slugging percentage (.864) and on-base percentage (.560), and among A.L. leaders, he was first in batting average and hits and was tied for first in total bases (19). On Friday, the left-handed-hitting Hamilton went 3-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored as the Angels topped the Houston Astros, 11-1, at Minute Maid Park. Leading 5-1, the 32- year-old out of Raleigh, North Carolina launched his first home run of the season, a three-run shot, as the Halos won their first game of the season. On Saturday, the five-time All-Star and 2010 A.L. Most Valuable Player connected on his second homer in as many days with a two-run blast in the fifth inning as Los Angeles went on to defeat Houston, 5-1.

Other noteworthy performances last week included Felix Hernandez (2-0, 1.88 ERA, 14.1 IP, 2 BB, 19 SO) and Justin Smoak (.292, 2 HR, 8 RBI) of the Seattle Mariners; Chris Sale (2-0, 1.76 ERA, 15.1 IP, 2 BB, 14 SO) of the Chicago White Sox; Melky Cabrera (.323, 10 H, 3 HR) of the Toronto Blue Jays; and Torii Hunter (.300, 3 HR, 7 RBI) of the Detroit Tigers.
