Hamels may be ready for a rehab start

June 13th, 2017

HOUSTON -- Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels' next outing could be a rehab start, according to manager Jeff Banister.
Currently on the disabled list while recovering from a strained right oblique, Hamels threw a bullpen session on Tuesday at Minute Maid Park, throwing two sets of 15 pitches each.
"He came out good," Banister said. "The fastball, not sure what the velocity was, but clean, the cutter was sharp, the breaking ball had good shape to it. The changeup was solid."
Hamels has been on the 10-day DL retroactive to April 30. The next step is yet to be determined, but it could be a Minor League rehab outing.
"There's no guarantee there's another [bullpen] session," Banister said. "If all goes well, we'll see how he makes it through, but we're not tied to having one more BP session."
In other injury news, outfielder , who is recovering from a strained right hamstring, was cleared to play outfield on Wednesday and Thursday for Double-A Frisco.
