Colorado Rockies agree to terms with first-round selection Mike Nikorak
Right-handed pitcher will be available to the media prior to today's game at Coors Field
DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Mike Nikorak, the club's second first-round selection (27th overall) in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Nikorak will be available to the media just prior to today's 1:10 p.m. MDT game in the Rockies' interview room adjacent to the Colorado clubhouse.
Nikorak was selected with the Rockies' compensatory pick after free agent outfielder Michael Cuddyer signed with the New York Mets.
The 18-year-old Nikorak is a native of Stroudsburg, Pa., and attended Stroudsburg High School. He is a 2015 Perfect Game First-Team All-American and was an All-Atlantic Regional First-Team selection. Nikorak was also named a 2014 Perfect Game Second-Team Preseason Underclassmen All-American.
At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Nikorak was ranked by USA Today as the fifth-best overall high school prospect eligible for the '15 draft. He was ranked by MLB.com at No. 15 overall among all players in the draft. According to Baseball America, he was the sixth-highest ranked pitcher and the 16th overall prospect.
Nikorak was 2-1 with a 0.94 ERA, throwing 29.2 innings with 21 walks and 50 strikeouts.
