PEORIA, Ariz. -- While the rest of their teammates faced the Padres on Monday night, D-backs pitchers Randall Delgado and Patrick Corbin got their work in during an afternoon intrasquad game on a back field at Salt River Fields.
For Corbin, throwing on a back field kept him from having to face a division rival that he figures to see often during the regular season.

Delgado's appearance was more noteworthy because the right-handed reliever is attempting to return after missing the second half of last season with elbow issues. He was given a platelet-rich plasma injection in September and so far the results have been encouraging.
"Threw the ball really well today," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said of Delgado. "He said he felt great. He wasn't holding back."

Delgado went one inning and allowed a run on two hits and threw 20 pitches, 14 for strikes.
Corbin, meanwhile, threw 47 pitches in 3 1/3 innings in what served as his second start this spring.
"The shape of his secondary pitches looked outstanding," Lovullo said. "The fastball command to both sides of the plate was great."
Recker joins the mix
Anthony Recker, who was signed to a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training on Monday, will join the crowded competition for the No. 3 catcher's spot.
With Alex Avila and Jeff Mathis set to make the roster behind the plate, two questions need to be answered. One, will the D-backs carry three catchers as they did last year? And if they do, who will it be?
Chris Herrmann filled the role last year, and his ability to also play the outfield makes him a leading candidate, while John Ryan Murphy saw some time in the big leagues with the D-backs last year.
Michael Perez, Josh Thole and Recker round out the rest of the catchers in camp.
Injury update
Closer candidate Brad Boxberger is scheduled to pitch in Thursday's game against the Brewers. It will be his first game action since Feb. 23. He is being brought along a little slower this spring after having some general arm soreness.
Fellow reliever Jimmie Sherfy, who experienced some shoulder fatigue early in camp, will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. Sherfy has yet to pitch in a game this spring.
Greinke TBD
Ace Zack Greinke will pitch again Thursday, but whether it's in that day's big league game against the Brewers, or in a Minor League game, has yet to be determined.
"We're going to listen to Zack and what his preference would be," Lovullo said.

Greinke faced the Brewers earlier this spring in his first outing and then pitched in a Minor League game last week.
Following the Minor League game, he was asked why he liked pitching in them as opposed to regular games.
"Probably just that you can control it a little bit more," he said referring to the fact that innings can be rolled over if his pitch count got too high. "And if you were working on something specifically you could spend a little extra time on it, compared to if you're in one of those other games."
