LA's Seager remains out with leg issue

DENVER -- Dodgers rookie infielder Corey Seager missed a second consecutive start because he was "heavy-legged," manager Don Mattingly said before Friday night's 7-4 loss to the Rockies.

"His leg was a little sore the other day and I didn't want to take any chances," said Mattingly. "[Thursday] was that day for him and just being cautious today. I'm sure he will play some short this series. He was heavy-legged the other day, shaking his legs out. Both of them."

Mattingly said Seager reported the discomfort to the training staff, a procedure the manager endorsed.

"We encourage guys to make sure they tell us anything going on at all," Mattingly said. "Let it go and it turns into something bigger and you're really in trouble. Let the training staff decide if it's minor or something that needs attention."

The 21-year-old Seager is playing into September, and probably October, for the first time in his professional career. Combining the Minor and Major Leagues, he has appeared in 144 games this year, compared to 118 last year and 101 the year before.

Mattingly said Enrique Hernandez was scheduled for a heavy workload day in Arizona on Friday. Barring a setback, Mattingly said he expected that to be the final test for his hamstring and he would rejoin the club.
