Hosmer confirmed out at plate on crew chief review

KANSAS CITY -- A crew chief review confirmed an out call against the Royals in Wednesday night's game.

Eric Hosmer was at third base and tried to score on Alex Gordon's bouncer to shortstop Jose Reyes. Taking his throw, catcher Dioner Navarro reached out to tag Hosmer as he slid past and reached for the plate.

Royals manager Ned Yost wondered if Navarro had violated the new rule against blocking home plate. Crew chief Bob Davidson called for a review and the call was confirmed.

"I couldn't tell, really, that's why I went out to check," Yost said. "I know Hoz had to slide wide so I thought it was a good time. It's not a challengeable play but they will review it and they did."
