Cubs claim right-handed pitcher Kameron Loe off waivers from Seattle

The Chicago Cubs today claimed right-handed pitcher Kameron Loe off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

To make room for Loe on the 40-man roster, catcher Steve Clevenger has been placed on the 60-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Loe, 31, has pitched all or part of nine major league seasons with Texas (2004-08), Milwaukee (2010-12) and Seattle (2013).  Since moving into a full-time relief role with the Rangers in 2008, Loe has gone 15-18 with three saves and a 3.81 ERA (100 ER/236.0 IP) in 213 appearances.  Overall, Loe is 33-41 with four saves and a 4.44 ERA (271 ER/549.0 IP) in 306 career big league appearances, all but 47 in relief.

After a season in Japan in 2009, the 6-foot-8, 240-pound righthander joined the Brewers in 2010 and posted a 2.78 ERA (18 ER/58.1 IP) in 53 relief appearances.  Loe has reached 70 appearances in each of the last two seasons with the Brewers, including a career-best 72 outings in 2011.  Last year, Loe went 6-5 with two saves and a 4.61 ERA (35 ER/68.1 IP) in 70 relief appearances.  He was 1-1 with a 10.80 ERA (8 ER/6.2 IP) in four relief outings with Seattle this season before being designated for assignment on April 11.

Clevenger, 27, injured his oblique swinging at the final pitch of the game yesterday.  He is batting .125 (1-for-8) in eight games this season.
