Cubs lose challenge in ninth as call is confirmed

CHICAGO -- They didn't have expanded instant replay 100 years ago when Wrigley Field was first built, but Cubs manager Rick Renteria used it in the ninth inning Wednesday on the ballpark's anniversary when he challenged a call in the ninth.

Pedro Strop walked Chris Owings to open the Arizona ninth, and Tony Campana hit a potential double-play grounder to shortstop Starlin Castro. But Castro couldn't get a grip on the ball to make a throw, and instead, he tried to slide into second for the forceout.

Second-base umpire D.J. Reyburn ruled Owings was safe, but Renteria challenged the call. After a one-minute, 30-second review, the call was confirmed.
