Cubs Reduce Spring Roster to 59 Players

MESA, AZ - The Chicago Cubs today sent three players to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 62 to 59 players.

Outfielder Matt Szczur was optioned to Double-A Tennessee, while two non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: right-handed pitcher Dayan Diaz and catcher Michael Brenly. 

Chicago's spring roster of 59 players consists of 30 pitchers (10 non-roster invitees), five catchers (two non-roster invitees), 14 infielders (five non-roster invitees) and 10 outfielders (three non-roster invitees).
