MESA, Ariz. -- Addison Russell and Willson Contreras each hit solo homers and Chesny Young added a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh for the Cubs, who battled the White Sox to a 4-4 tie on Monday at Sloan Park.
Young was at the plate with two outs in the ninth and a runner on third, but Omar Minaya struck him out for the final out.

The White Sox opened a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning after Tim Anderson hit an RBI double and Jose Abreu smacked a two-run homer in front of a sellout crowd of 14,621.
Russell led off the Cubs' second with his first spring homer, launching a 2-2 pitch from Lucas Giolito to left. This was Giolito's first start for the White Sox, who acquired him in December from the Nationals in the Adam Eaton trade. Giolito served up three hits and walked one over two innings, striking out two.
"It was fun. It's awesome to be able to test your stuff against the best guys in the league," Giolito said. "I'm excited to keep it going. I know there are a lot of things I have to work on, and I'm going to continue to work on those and hopefully put up more zeros next outing."

Brett Anderson, making his first spring start for the Cubs, gave up a leadoff single to Tim Anderson, and then retired the next three batters. The lefty missed nearly all last season after needing back surgery in March. He could share the fifth spot in the Cubs' rotation this season with Mike Montgomery.
"It was good to get back in a game and face some competition that's not your own guys," Brett Anderson said. "Hopefully, now I can get used to being in a routine every five days and multiple outings."
It may have been brief but Brett Anderson got what he needed from the outing.
"The first [single by Tim Anderson] was hit fairly decent but the rest of them were weak contact," Brett Anderson said. "Here lately, when I've been out there, I'm not a big strikeout guy. With this defense behind me, it'll be an out more times than not."
Cubs second baseman Jemile Weeks had to leave the game in the top of the sixth after colliding with Yolmer Sanchez at second base. Weeks walked gingerly off the field. Young took over defensively for Weeks, and then delivered the key hit in the seventh.

White Sox Up Next: It's the first split-squad action for the White Sox on Tuesday, with one group hosting Seattle at 1:05 p.m. MST and another traveling to Goodyear to play the Reds at 1:05 MST. Michael Kopech gets the start in Glendale, with Felix Hernandez taking the mound, while Reynaldo Lopez starts in Goodyear. Manager Rick Renteria said catcher Zack Collins could get a start in one of those two games.
Cubs Up Next:Alec Mills will make his first start for the Cubs on Tuesday when they play host to the Angels at Sloan Park. First pitch will be 2:05 p.m. CT. The Cubs acquired Mills from the Royals for Minor Leaguer Donnie Dewees. Mills spent most of last season at Triple-A Omaha, where he compiled a 3.22 ERA in 24 games (23 starts), striking out 54 over 58 innings.
