Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated he'll announce Saturday whether Cueto, who strained his left groin, will attempt to make his scheduled start Sunday. Cueto played catch on flat ground Friday and even displayed his characteristic pitching motion in which he turns his back to the hitter.
Asked how his throwing session went, Cueto replied in Spanish, "Bien [well]."
Bochy has dropped no hints regarding who would replace Cueto if he can't pitch. Speculation continues to surround rookie left-hander and veteran righties and .
Bochy said Crawford, who dislocated his left pinkie while sliding into third base, was "doubtful" to play Saturday but "possibly" could perform Sunday. Crawford also played catch and was expected to test his injury further by swinging a bat.
With Crawford sidelined, utility man started his third game in a row at shortstop and fourth consecutive overall (he played second base to open this streak).
