The Kansas City Royals announced that third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert has been named Royals Majestic Player of the Month and left-handed pitcher Danny Duffy is the Pitcher of the Month for July. The player award is determined by a combined fan and media vote, with the pitcher award voted on by local media.
Cuthbert earns his first Royals Majestic Player of the Month honors after batting .340 with eight doubles, two homers and 13 RBI in 26 July games. His batting average in the month ranked 10th among qualifying American League hitters, while he was also tied for seventh in doubles and eighth in hits. He hit safely in 22 of 26 games, which included a career-best 12-game hitting streak from July 7-23. His streak was the longest by a Royals rookie since Mike Moustakas hit safely in 15-straight games in 2011.
Duffy earned his second-straight Pitcher of the Month award, while it was the third time he's been honored in his career. The 27-year-old went 3-0 with a 3.18 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 34.0 innings, while the Royals won all five of his starts in July. His 31 strikeouts tied for 10th in the A.L. and his 5.17 strikeouts-to-walks ratio tied for fifth. Duff worked a career-best 8.2 innings in a 6-2 triumph at Philadelphia on July 2, also collecting his first Major League hit in that game. He continued his outstanding run into August, fanning a franchise-record 16 Rays in 8.0 shutout innings last night at Tampa Bay.
