PHILADELPHIA -- The D-backs' roster underwent a makeover on Monday as the team made four moves, adding right-hander Shelby Miller and outfielder Socrates Brito while optioning infielder/outfielder Brandon Drury to Triple-A Reno and placing outfielder David Peralta on the 15-day disabled list.
Miller started Monday afternoon's game against the Phillies after being on the DL since May 25 with a sprained right index finger.
Brito made the Opening Day roster, but he was optioned to Reno on April 18. After struggling initially with the Aces, he has swung the bat better of late.
"I've been swinging at better pitches and my swing is really on time right now," Brito said. "I don't have any issues in my swing right now. I just feel really great."
Drury had just seven hits in his last 41 at-bats, but he still was hitting .275 on the year. His demotion had more to do with the team needing another center fielder, because Peralta's injury left them with only Michael Bourn as an option in center. Brito can play center, while Drury, an infielder by trade, can only play the corners in the outfield.
The team initially thought Peralta's tight lower back would only sideline him for a couple of days, but it has not gotten better and he will undergo an MRI in Phoenix to determine if it is anything serious.
Worth noting
• D-backs manager Chip Hale said Drury, who mainly played outfield in the big leagues, will get most of his work at second and third base while with Reno.
• First baseman Paul Goldschmidt was out of the starting lineup for just the second time this year.
